Script Evolution

As cited on the Home Page, the order of Love and Information varies from production to production. This page histories the process our team has taken to reorder the script, assign actors to lines, and make some slight alterations to the language.

Applying the "Note on Text"

In order to visualize the scenes, I made moveable plot beads. As pictured below, each card is labeled to reflect the stakes of the scene: The orange explosion portrays scenes with high stakes. The pink circle refers to more narrative driven scenes with stakes that are not as extreme. The blue brackets indicate mundane scenes with little to no apparent stakes. The full plot beads are accessible through our team's Box folder, but I've displayed three iterations of plot beads for the first four sections below.

"As Is"

The first plot bead I created was the order of the show as it is written. None of the Depression scenes were included in this first iteration.

"Draft 2"

After many conversations between the creative team, we tentatively reordered the scenes and added in the "Depression" scenes in yellow.

"Current Draft"

This is currently how the script is organized, but is subject to change in rehearsal. I will update this page if alterations are made.

Assigning Lines

In the original text, no lines are assigned to characters; therefore, Rebecca took on the task of assigning lines to actors (which are labeled in the script A-F). Like the scene orders, lines and roles assigned to each actor are subject to change.

For example, "Secret" has been assigned to actors A and B accordingly:

A: Please please tell me

B: no

A: please because I’ll never

B: don’t ask don’t ask

Text Alterations

Some lines in the script have been altered to reflect our American context.

For example, all instances where the characters say "Mum" have been replaced with "Mom" or "Mother." See below for an image from the text.

"Memory House"

The image below shows a section of the edited script from the scene "Memory House." Words that an American audience would not recognize were replaced with region-appropriate synonyms. In this example, "cooker" has been altered to "stove."
